Making knitting tags with my Cricut
This is a combo post. Meaning that I am using my cricut expression to make some tags to put on my knitting projects. The previous post that I mentioned my charity knitting, I didn't mention how they really like to have tags. This gives me the chance to put washing directions and that I was the creator. So lets get started.
This is my pink cricut expression. There are several machines in the cricut line. They have a new Cricut Expression 2 that has way more features than my Expression. I really like my machine. This machine can work on it's own without a computer. It uses cartridges. Although cartridges can be very expensive and you can save some money by purchasing them when on sale. I will share what I do to save money on these cartridges. The best deals at the local stores seems to be 34.00-39.99, after the cartridges has been out for a while. I purchase mine online. If you do eBay you can pick up so many of them. I have gotten mine from eBay from 15.00-35.00. One of my favorite websites to purchase them from is Memory Miser . They have all kinds of sales if you don't have to have the cartridges as soon as they come out. They have the new releases at 24.99-39.99, which is a better price then stores for new releases. They also have free shipping if you spend more than 50.00.
Another thing I want to mention about cartridges.... I have recommended a cartridge that I thought was so versatile and people would just give me this look. I knew they were thinking I don't want that. Let me explain. I would recommend the Paper Doll cartridge and so many didn't want the paper dolls. Well, neither did I, but why I loved the cartridge is because for each image they showed on the back of that cartridge there would be 3 or 4 more designs. So if you picked the Pilgrim paper doll, there would be a pumpkin, a pie, a turkey and so on. Those images would be valuable in use of card making and scrapbook pages. Since the cartridge had a doll for every holiday, season and other occasions, it had so much on it. I know they don't sell that one anymore, although you maybe able to get one on eBay.
So look below and see the back of this cartridge I am going to use today.
You see the images, below is a page for just one of those images. This cartridge has less extras per item then a lot of the other ones. With this one you get an alphabet and then the bottom line with the star and step 1 phrase. So with this one image there is more, that doesn't show up on the back. You just have no idea what the extras are. I think provo craft does themselves an injustices by not showing the extras.
Okay I used this image and used the background cut and not use the layering. I thought how cute these would be for tags on baby items I make for charity.
I used some of my stamps. Below is a set that "Stampin Up" has for sale. If you are a knitter you may like to pick this set up. I love it!!!
Since I didn't have anything on hand to tie my tag to so you can see how I am going to use them, I am using a work in progress for a swap. I just used a piece of yarn and took a yarn needle and ran the yarn through the item and up into the bow holes of the bib. Just adorable.
Baby Blanket with Border on my LK150 knitting machine
This very soft baby blanket was made on my knitting machine. I knit the main part of the blanket and then did the border. It was in a book teaching you to add a border as you attached it to the blanket. All done on the knitting machine. It was a great new thing to learn. I did short rows on the corners and didn't wrap the needle next to it, so it would leave little holes and it makes it look more lacy and delicate. I then crocheted around the entire blanket in a shell stitch. I love how it turned out and want to make more. Fun Fun Fun!

Another knitted Baby Blanket done
Camping is always a great time to do knitting projects. This one I started sometim ago and my sister in law mentioned in a facebook group that she was trying to finish projects she had started. I thought what a very good idea. So I pulled this out and had one row of blocks all garter stitched. I had three baby blankets done for charity and thought one more would be wonderful. Now, how to finish up quickly. I knitted one more fow of blocks in garter stitch and then knit one block and then put the live stitches on my knitting machine (LK 150) and knitted the blocks in between and then knitted the end block in garter stitch. Okay I do have garter bars for my machine and never used them. I know I need to give them a try, but I wanted to get everything on the machine knitted and take everything with me camping. My knitting machine did the trick. I finished up all the hand knitting at the campground and began to sew the rows of blocks together. This took as long as it did to knit everything. I wanted to do this style blanket for awhile and guess what? I wont do another for awhile. Yes, it turned out very nice and I really love the color combinations. This is done in simply soft by caron yarn. That yarn gets softer and softer as you wash it.
Pulled out my Knitting Machine
I pulled out my LK 150 knitting machine to make a couple of baby blankets for charity. It makes the middle section go much faster and I can have fun hand knitting a border. I only added a garter stitch border all the way around, but it goes quick. I personally like quick projects most, like dish cloths, socks, mittens, toys, doll clothes. This turned out great and I am going to do a girl one and play a little with the different stitches I can make on my machine. It will help me learn more about it and make my project go faster. I will have 4 blankets for charity. 2 hand knit, that took about a month each. I will have 2 machine knit main section, which took about 1 hour to 1 hr and 15 min, then I added a border that probably took me another 3 hours. I used baby yarn so I had small stitches.
I know there is many who believe you are truly not knitting if you use a machine or a loom. I say how silly is that? You get the same end result only there is different ways to go about it. It is kinda like anything anymore. You can say you are really not doing the laundry if you use a washing machine instead of a wash board and your hands. You are not really cooking if you use a stove or microwave instead of a fire. I know everyone can choose to do what they want and that is great there are many ways to do things, because we are all different. I love trying new things and the knitting machine is fun and can make those big projects go faster and that means more time for me to make my small projects. That is great for me!
